There’s a wonderful paradox about Di Gennaro and it’s being confirmed every time I visit it over the last six years. How else can you describe the fact that such a centrally located restaurant that stands right in the heart of Milan’s most touristic area, is anything but a tourist΄s trap?

And moreover, it offers great food at very reasonable prices and is always full of locals who appreciate and enjoy the Italian menu and Lombardy’s specialties. This restaurant and pizzeria can be found on a pedestrian street right behind Duomo and the famous fashion department store La Rinascente. In a fully renovated, comfortable space, you can taste craft fully made pizzas or delicious pasta dishes, all kinds of Italian antipasti and of course local dishes of the Milanese cuisine. Portions are large and served in an elegant manner under the relaxing and discreet lights of the wood paneled interior where green is the dominant colour.

You should definitely try the famous Risotto alla Milanese, a rich and creamy rice dish with saffron and then you’ll realize why risotto cooking is an art in Italy! They also serve perfect al dente pasta, like my favourite dishes: Spaghetti with seafood, or Lasagna alla Bolognese in a rich tomato-basil sauce or the amazing Ravioli with spinach, ricotta cheese and walnut sauce – a taste explosion in your mouth!

Pizza is made close to Neapolitan style, which means a rather thick dough and rich Italian ingredients in very tasty combinations. One whole pizza is satisfying enough for one, but also light enough to allow you to also try something else from the menu. Whatever you choose, make sure you leave some room for a sweet epilogue, I strongly recommend the Βaba au rum, a big, soaked in rum savarin, accompanied by the most delicious custard cream! Add a fine Italian wine and all together you have an ambrosial meal!
